Our job is a physical and even athletic trade, requiring strength, flexibility, and stamina. Dancing is a workout, whether on stage or lap dancing. Day-to-day there are some common injuries we get.
Bruising: from the pole, and interacting with customers
Dermatitis: a skin reaction from dirty seats and fabrics
Blisters & cuts: from improperly fitted shoes
Damage to knees: from kneeling against the hard stage surface
Overstretched calves: from wearing heels that change body alignment
Physical self-care is just as important as the mental and emotional when working in such a physical trade. You can counteract common injuries by doing more stretching and maintaining good hygiene. Stretch before and after work as you would when working out. Wipe yourself off after being on dirty seats or clothing. Be careful of banging your knees when doing a stage set. Wear socks with closed-toe boot heels to protect your feet. Take an Epsom salt bath for sore muscles.
Take care of yourself first! xoxo
